10 Afghan Taliban militants give up fighting

  Ten Taliban fighters have given up fighting and handed over their weapons to police in Kunduz province 250 km north of Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday, Interior Ministry said in a statement released here.

  "A ten-member group of armed militants under Mullah Zahidullah laid down arms and joined peace process in Kunduz city today," the statement added.

  These people were active outside Kunduz provincial capital the Kunduz city and with their joining to peace process the security will be further improved in the province, the statement noted.

  Taliban militants fighting the government are yet to comment.

  More than 3,500 anti-government militants, according to officials, have laid down arms and joined the government-backed peace process over the past one year in Afghanistan, a claim rejected by Taliban outfit as baseless.
